This portfolio came to be because I always liked to share my projects with the internet, and I like to have everything organized and in the same place. I've had previous attempts at accomplishing this, but in portuguese pages that don't grant me nearly as much viewers, partly because most of the things I've written in the past are in my mother tongue. I also never shared my github projects, and I wanted something that could easily be sent for job applications. A page that is simultaneously personal and professional.
And yes, I know most people don't recommend mixing the two. But in this case, I believe it's a strength, for several reasons:
- On one hand, my interest and personal projects are closely tied to things I do or want to do professionally, as as such can be seen as a contribution to my professional skills.
- On other hand, compiling in one place all of the things I've done also denotes my progress, and also allows me to showcase how easily I blend different categories: for example, how I blend my artistic skills and my old passion for blogging with the need to create templates for apps I have to develop.
Finally, I believe that authenticity is a form of empowerment and a tool to help me reach my truest potential. I don't want to chop a part of me to make myself more presentable to the market, especially because that's what most people already do, in particular when they go to job interviews.
