I'm both proud and disappointed with this drawing.
First of all, why disappointed? Because now that I understand more about cultural appropriation, I understand how the theme of the drawing was a mistake. At the time (2017), my sister asked me for a fanart of Garret from the game Thief, and I felt inspired by the last pic of this post (if you know the name of the artist, let me know - I had simply saved that print from a music video), trying to reproduce the same kind of facial painting. I don't know anything about the "Dia de los Muertos" nor about the Mexican culture, which was the minimum I could have done to minimize the propagation of something symbolic as pure fantasy. Therefore I'm writing this both to show I recognize my mistake and also to possibly prevent other people from doing the same.
On the other hand, I'm obviously happy with the result. I don't think it looks "perfect" anymore, but it was something I didn't expect to achieve with pencils, and a good mix of the style I was copying with the character I was portraying. You can check the step-by-step on the last pics.
